Thanks Jacques Chirac. I wanted to make sure I wasn't misreading it.

Paddedjohn I did say further down it was for a phased return to work. Sorry I should have put it in the opening post.

Yes my employer will allow it. This is the 3rd time i have been off long term sick and have always had a phased return to work. I usually do use my holiday for the remaining days but I was told I could claim SSP for them.

How long have you been working for this employer?

Almost 7 years. The first time I was off for 6 months. The second time I was off for 5 months but I'm hoping the Dr will sign me back on a phased return next week.

I have done this, it took a bit of discussion the first time (quite a few years ago) but wasn't an issue the last time.
Signature removed for peace of mind

Thanks savvy_sue it's nice to know it is possible. I wonder why I wasn't offered it the previous 2 times.

Unless you can manage on £34.68 ssp for the 2 days you may be better off taking it as holiday.

It's more about not losing my holiday than about the 30 odd quid I will be paid for it.

I think that the OPs original question has been answered, that is yes provided that there is still SSP entitlement left these days will be paid, but may be of interest to anyone in a similar position to know the rules for this.
The normal SSP rules apply to a phased return to work so first a PIW is required which is four consecutive days when no work is done. In this case Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday are the PIW. Second if the PIW is less than eight weeks after the last PIW (in this case happening every week) it links with the last PIW so no waiting days have to be served so payment is for every qualifying day in this case Friday and Monday.

Thanks chrisbur. I will post an update here after I speak to HR.
It may be helpful to others who come across this.
