I know its not quite the right forum but a lot of us here go over our ODs at some point.
I used to think barclays was the pits, until I moved to A&L. Now first few months, everything was fine but now this last month, I was *really* short of cash and I had one DD bounce. To be fair they let me off with a warning, but a second attempt to take the money bounced ( I actually stuck £100 cash in on the day of the bounce, miserable gits) and they charged me £34 for a returned Direct debit. I asked the women "does it really cost you £34 to push a button ?" She replied that it was inline with other banks. I decided not to argue it and just reclaim it the long winded way. Now to add insult to injury, they are charging me a £20 over overdraught fee. Strange that as I never actually was over because the DD bounced! So im now having to claim back £54 the long way.
What im trying to say (waffling on) is that although it may appeal because its a free OD for one year, they make their money elsewhere. As for me, im off to a decent bank (if I can find one!)

They told OH that they try to take the DD at 9 am in the morning so even if you put the money in at 9 am you wouldn't make it in time to cover a DD. It has to be in there the day before.
Not sure if that helps, but it will at least save you rushing there next time as even putting cash in during the middle of the night won't cover it

Yes, I have an A&L account and though I haven't been charged by them (yet?) I have found them pretty unresponsive in the customer service department so I'm taking my £50 referral bonus and closing the account at the end of the month. I've had the account nearly a year now anyway.
Apparently you can reopen the account after 3 months and get the referral bonus again, I think, so I might do that when I've paid off my debts...LBM: Nov 2004 Debt Apr06: £19,273.46 (Highest)

is your £20 charge not for going overdrawen because they took the charge for failed DD off? or was your £100 in on time to cover the charge.
I hate the way you call up and the people on the other end of the phone treat you like it's their own personal cash. Like you've dipped their wages or something.
No offence to anyone who works in a bank and doesn't speak to customers like this but there are some who exist:mad:Official DFW nerd no 551 - proud to be dealing with my debts

Ive had this exact same thing with A&L , only they agreed to pay out a DD that I had never agreeed to ( it was erroneous)
its cost me 200 and they have no intention of paying it back to me, although they did refund the DD adn the first charge off it. But the resdt of the charges that have come from the first bounce are staying put and I have to pay them .
Erm LBA in the post A&L you rotbags. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0
