Isn't that a bit on the high side for a city of 250k residents?

Luton has a population of 240k and 9000 employees. Sheffield has a population of 550k and a bit over 18000. So does look to be rather high. Of course you can't tell from that how much is outsourced.

    Checked my local ones.

Surrey CC: 23000 employees, population 1.1 million

Runnymede Borough Council: 318 full time and 190 part time for 80,500 inhabitants.

But as you say, hard to draw any conclusions when one doesn't know the levels of outsourcing.
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

The scary thing is that they are a Unitary authority, which are supposedly more efficient. So for where you are to achieve the same level of efficiency, you'd have to get Runnymede and all the other smaller councils (poss including parish ones) to merge. This is not normally contemplated at a whole county level, but it is something that Warwickshire is debating at the moment:

Hope you are ok if you are in Runnymede:(.

    We're ok vivatifosi. Thanks.
Don't know if you're familiar with the area, we're higher up in Englefield Green, close to Royal Holloway uni.

Telford is hard to find but I am getting a figure of about 5,500 council employees and this year our population is estimated at 170,000
we are a growing town so this estimate is questioned.

In the latest news it is going to take them 20 years to pay back the redundancy costs:

Imo, they have left it too late and are still not facing up to the issues. They should have been in conversation with the unions about big cuts 2-3 years ago, like other councils were.
