Tesco Own Brand Printer Cartridges

I've not seen these on their website, but in Tesco's the other day I noticed they had a range of their own ink cartridges alongside named brands.
My printer is a Canon Pixma MP170, so I bought the Tesco versions of black and colour ink cartridges, each about £4 cheaper than Canon's own.
However, the quality was very poor. Dull colours, visible bands where the paper has passed through the printer, etc.
Have others used these and had better experiences, or is this typical?
