    Useless site.

I filled out the 60 second test answering the questions in a way that clearly was not mis-sold. It then went on to say that i could still claim, although chances were low. It then suggested i could sell my endowment through them.

They also want to take 25% plus VAT of the compensation. Not bad for 10 minutes work.

Thanks for that Dunston. Looking at your signature I would say you are better positioned to establish whether this is a good / bad offer (The free 60 second check) than me.
  • If the 60 second checker still says you can make a claim despite filling in the form in such a way as to show that you were not mis-sold what does this tell you about the company concerned. They will use a standard letter and if it gets turned down will run a mile rather than fight a case. 25% is too much for such a standard service.

If you can fill in the 60 second test you can also go to the which site and seek various opinions as to a possible case.

As dunston will testify I disagree with a lot of his opinion but in this case I have to say I think he has made some good points.

I will be fair to you DOTW, you have hung around and contributed and I have amended my views a little. MOST of these companies is now my view rather than ALL. ;)

As said before, I have no problem using third parties (IFAS or claims companies) as long as the fee is appropriate and they are using a genuine complaints process.

When I went through what I call the 'endownment crisis' (large shortfall) I also looked on the web for these companies and even contacted one to see what if there was anything they could do for me. Their forms are virtually identical to the ones issued by endownment companies - they are ask for the same information!. When I read it will take between 6 and 9 months and by the way we also want 30% of the compensation I thought do you- no chance!!!!!!!!!. It is literally a complete rip off!
  • Yep, a rip-off to compound the misery already inflicted upon the luckless policyholders.

Today the Pru announced that they will not pay a penny to ambulance chasers as of this week... the end is nigh, where is my board?

  • Pru have never paid any money to our company anyway. I can't see what all the fuss is about. This is no more than a way of casting doubt in peoples minds that they will have to 'find' the money to pay the bill rather than have it skimmed of the payment of redress which is much more painless. On a positive note perhaps people will think harder about the overcharging of most of these companies.
  • 'Company' infers a state of soundness, I don't think a few people with half a brain huddled together in a run-down office robotically printing off standard letters is a good source of advice for people who are facing financial oblivion.

Where do the 60% who get turned down go after the 'claims handler' fails to obtain his (or her) pound of flesh?

A good place to start would be HM Treasury.

  • Dear Compensationitis

As an advocate for the advice given by IFAs over the last how many years I really would have expected a more temperate and reasoned comment, from a 'spokesperson' of the IFA Defence Union.

The uttterly unwarranted slur on myself and my company as well as my staff merely demonstrates how far you will go to stop your fellow former IFAs having to stand up and take responsibility for decades of poor advice.

Lets get a few facts straight

I am currently working on the final element of my fellowship in financial planning, former CII AFPC examiner and registered pension transfer specialist, most IFAs hold only the basic FPC which my 12 year old has read and fancies his chances at taking.

There is nothing run down or second rate regarding our offices and my staff do not robotically print off standard letters. If you took the trouble to re-read some of your previous postings you may recall that we are one of, if not the only, company that turns down claims if we do not believe that mis-selling has taken place.

We win over 95% of all the cases that we actually place a complaint for although many of these have to go to FOS, even the FSA stats show that 70% of cases are upheld first time so where do you get this 60% rejection rate from.

In your own words 'If you don't know what you are talking about keep quiet' and next time try and think before putting your keyboard in gear.
