90th birthday party

Options
having a surprise 90th for my mum in a parish hall for 25-35 people ,there is no bar facility but you can take your own. as people like different drinks rather than try to provide all different drinks i thought maybe asking them to bring there own favourite tipple, i would then need to word this on the invite without looking like a cheapskate .i will be providing wine & lager

I'd think that wine and lager would be fine. Realistically, how many people will be drinking? By the time you account for any children, those driving and anyone who won't drink due to medication etc. there may not be many left who want a tipple. I'd suggest that tea and coffee would be more popular - or at least they were at my Granny's 90th :D

Yes shouldn't think it will be an alcoholic event and what you are providing should be fine.

Doubt it will be a late session so people won't expect a lot of alcohol.

If you really wanted to you could say something on the invite 'wine, lager and teas provided but you are welcome to bring your own alcohol if you wish.'

Is it an evening party? My Nan is 90 this year and my other 90 next year and though they might not drink anything/much they are the only survivors of their generation, so the amount of similar aged people only drinking tea instead is minimal or non-existant.

I'd have said what another poster suggested and state what drinks you are providing on the invite and a suggestion that they bring anything else themselves.
  • We went to an 18th like this, invite simply stated "No bar, please BYO drinks". No problem and we didn't mind either as no corkage fee lol!! Hosts did have plenty of plastic cups and also had some wine/lager available - probably more so for those that didn't read the invite properly or those that ran out.

I think wine and lager is sufficient alcohol wise (it's a celebration not a p155 up so maybe something along the lines of "No bar available, wine, lager and soft drinks will be provided or please BYO"
