Difficulties with work changes

Do you deal with your clients directly? I understand you're not able to explain to them what the problem is, but could you say something like, "I'm sorry you're not happy, here's our official complaints address/managing director's email/ombudsman contact". Some organisations will pay more attention to clients than staff - I don't know if this is the case where you work?0

There is a telephone helpline but they just make a note of the query and promise to call back....but rarely do. Colleagues have tried to help but they are equally as busy trying to do their own work and just as confused as me!
Also the system is so erratic that one can spend a whole day trying to get past a barrier/glitch only for it to "repair" itself overnight!
Sounds like someone is working on the system overnight, find out who is responsible for implementing the system, usually it will be a Project Manager, then ask if there is a bug logging system that you can report bugs.
Other than that ride the crappy wave that is a new IT system, and don't forget to mention it if you go to interview, handling a new systems install is a good thing.0 -
It sounds frustrating but the most important thing is you protect yourself. Keep a log of every error you get and what workaround you've had to do to resolve it/how long it took to get the task done."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

you need to [STRIKE]speak to[/STRIKE] email you manager. If you are the manager, you need to [STRIKE]speak to[/STRIKE] email the boss.
I have to admit in my past, I have written a system like that. For me it would have been a complete re-write, and I would expect extra payment.
How this often happens is that someone with money wants new software, and the software has to work in a specific way. This person often does not know the day to day running, or how the company actually works, but know what goes in and comes out, and gets the programmer to work on owners specifications.0 -
I know exactly how you feel.
I'm out of work at the moment, but in one of my recent roles, there were all sorts of technical problems which were making my work impossible.
I cared enough to work out some solutions and actually approached my boss and explained the problems I was having.
It partly relied on my supervisor doing their job properly as well as new software which hadn't been properly tested.
The big boss seemed rather un-interested. He said we'd be OK, and didn't want to upset the supervisor (his friend) at all.
I thought ''You know what. Screw 'em. If my boss doesn't care, then I CERTAINLY don't! I'm on minimum wage. Why am I stressing myself?!!''
I then spent the next few weeks putting in the absolute minimum effort required.
When we bagan to get REALLY behind with our workloads, the big boss suddenly started panicking! Now it was his turn, lol.
He approached me looking for answers as to why i'd fallen behind so much. I told him that i'd already spoken to him about the problems. That seemed like news to him. He couldn't remember that.
Then he was asking me to work over-time etc which I declined.
Was nice watching him get stressed out.
Leave the stress and thinking to the rich bosses.
Keep notes of various problems, and of times that you've approached people for help etc. Don't give them any ammo. Don't be the fall-guy0
