Suit dilemma

Options
I'm probably making mountains out of molehills here, but I wondered what others would do in my situation.

I'm not getting married for 18 months, and am kind of worried I'm doing some things too soon.

Since we set a date, I've been researching things, and found that we could actually buy a waistcoat, handkerchief, cravat and suit for less than local places charge to hire suits. The waistcoat, handkerchief and cravat I bought in a sale back in September. The morning suit I've had my eye on since August, and it was reduced by a lot in Christmas sales, so we bought it. My OH is very pleased with it all, and I think he looks gorgeous in it! :)

Since I bought the waistcoat etc in September, I've realised I'd like my Dad and the best man to match my OH (partially due to my Mum saying that she thinks they should all match). In the Christmas sales the waistcoat etc. weren't reduced by that much, so I decided not to buy any more just yet.

However, I did buy my Dad a suit as I know his sizes but I'd like to make sure it fits and that he's happy with it. I just don't know if I should be sorting out suits this early and I'm concerned about broaching the subject with my Mum around as occasionally she seems enthusiastic, but often she doesn't seem that open to wedding conversation. My Dad has been consistently the same clothing measurements for the last few years, so *touch wood* I can't see him changing in the next 18 months. Torso-wise he's the same size as my OH, so he can try it on with the waistcoat etc. that we already have for now.

I'm worried about sizing for my OH as he says he'd like to lose some weight for the wedding, but he says if we keep the size he is now, it can always be altered if needed and doesn't seem too worried. Is it expensive to alter trousers?

The biggest concern is the best man. He was bigger than the sizing for the waistcoats went up to until recently, but has recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and is losing weight fairly rapidly. I don't know what to do about getting his suit and waistcoat etc. I'm constantly worried that one or the other is going to be discontinued, because they're perfect for what my OH and I want for the groomsmen. At the same time though, I can't really guess what sizing he's going to have by the time of the wedding.

Also, should my OH's Dad match?

Sorry, I've not been to a wedding since 1998 when I was a child, so I don't really know anything about wedding etiquette!

Hi Dinglefoot, I think you're looking at the same place I ordered from?

I noticed in the sale that they hadn't reduced the waistcoats either, my OH and best man need their waistcoats making a bit bigger so was eyeing up a spare one. I bought ours back in September knowing that my OH's suit needs tailoring a little on the jacket arms and the legs. Other than that they are perfect.

What I will suggest though is depending on what time of year your getting married look at the material of the suits, the ones I have the jackets are 100% wool they also sent me a replacement jacket because we were unsure on one of the jackets and it wasn't the same material it was a summer material jacket. So do be careful with that.

As for people matching, I got my OH a champagne coloured waistcoat, cravat and handkerchief. The others Best man, FOB, FOG have light blue ones.

I did indeed get the waistcoat, handkerchief and cravat from the same place thanks to your thread :)

That's good thinking, thank you. What I might do then, is at least hold off on the waistcoats for now as it doesn't matter so much if all the rest of the men match perfectly.
