Satisfied Debt questions

Hi guys,
Quick question, I am going through my debts just trying to get things in order.
Here is the situation, I have a debt company chasing me for a debt, I decided to setup a direct debit with them and pay it. I decided to look into the debt further and it appears it may have already been paid?
The debt details:
Now in November 2013 I have started receiving letters from a company called Lowell.
They are chasing exactly the same debt that was marked satisfactory closed in May 2009.
It has been 4 years and now I am being chased again for the same debt, surely this is a mistake?
How should I go about this? I set up a direct debit with Lowell but I am going to cancel that and write to them ASAP.
Please advise me guys

The entry could mean you have already paid it, or it could be the entry by the original creditor when they sold the debt on to the debt collector. The original creditor will sometimes just mark the account as having no outstanding balance if the debt collector doesn't put an entry of your credit file.
I would write to lowell to ask for proof of the alleged debt and for a full transaction breakdown. At the same time I'd try to check back over your own records to see if you have any evidence of having paid the debt already (e.g. can you get copies of your bank statements to see what they show was paid back then).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thanks Tixy, I was wondering if maybe they marked it as satisfied when they sold the debt, I will speak to Lowell about it.
would it really take them 4 years to persue the debt
