RIFT, tax refund??

My husband is employed as a carpenter PAYE (not self employed) however some of his work colleagues have stated they claimed a tax refund recently as they currently have to buy all their own tools, PPE and regularly use their own transport.
We have received forms from a company called RIFT however after searching on here it seems the general idea is to avoid and do it ourselves,
Does anyone have any advice on claiming for these sort of refunds? Thanks in advance

I know nothing about RIFT, but yes, generally the advice is to DIY.
What I will say is that PPE required for the job should be provided by the employer at no charge ...Signature removed for peace of mind0
