Son and wife looking at taking over a tenancy for a high street pub owned by a company.
Could anyone explain how they get a licence, more importantly how they are assessed (e.g. police record, credit scoring, etc) .
Thanks

Not being funny but are they really suited to managing a pub if they can't even find this basic information for themselves?
These are surely the first things to investigate BEFORE even looking at businesses.:hello:0 -
If you do a forum search on here you'll find plenty of threads with plenty of very, very informative posts about running a pub.
Definitely worth a read.
[Edit]
This is a good thread.0 -
First question: have they ever worked in the pub/catering/hospitality trade before? If not, I suggest they do before even considering it.
Second question: Are they aware of the challenges facing the pub trade at the moment?0 -
Sorry but there's no way would I take on a pub........2014 Target;
To overpay CC by £1,000.
Overpayment to date : £310
2nd Purse Challenge:
£15.88 saved to date0 -
i would want to see the books before i even thought of signing a thing . what sort of rent are they having to pay? is the pub in a good area ? are they incharge of kitchen or is it chain run no profit for them ?
are they paid a wage/salary or a share of profits ,
licence you have to do a "test" for it used to cost £150 and lasted about 10 years i think you book it throu the job center if not the council will know i think long time ago for me
but its hard graft for a pub up early bed late always a dramastaff etc
but i enjoyed it and if i didnt have he kids id be there stilli didnt drink so life was bit easier and lots of profit

Please tell them to research, it's ruddy hard work, long hours and no profit nowadays.
Sorry to be blunt but if they have to ask questions then they really shouldn't go into it (pubs are a rich mans hobby)
