Keeping Recipes in the same place

Options
I'm compiling recipes that I think my girls might eat all in one place rather than have loads of cookbooks.

I have copied some recipes and put them into a Word document, but there are other recipes that I have cut out from magazines and I want to scan them and put them into the same document.

But I'm not sure how to do it. When I scan a page and save it, can I then cut and paste that page into the Word document?

I use Evernote to store mine. Anything stored there is available on your PC, tablet, phone etc.

    https://evernote.com

To add printer images I either take a photo with my phone and add it, or scan it in and add it. It has the advantage you can then edit it and add tags and search easily e.g. Party food, Xmas. Also handy for checking ingredients on my phone when in the supermarket.

To get a scan into a word doc, I'd probably take a screenshot and use paint to crop the bit I wanted before pasting into word.

What version of office do you have?

If you have a version with Onenote you can use that to compile your recipes all in one place, you can even add links to websites and photos/screen grabs.

I used to have mine set up as a project book with sections for chicken, beef, lamb, vegetarian, desserts and drinks (I do like cocktails). Each section was colour coded so it was easy to go on and just look at beef recipes. You can have sub sections (within chicken I had pies, soups, stir fry, other) plus you can add tags and keywords so if I fancied soup I could get all soup recipes in one place no matter what the ingredients.

Any time I found a new recipe I'd just add it in and I could add my own notes over time as I change a recipe or my own mini review to remember whether I liked it or not, what went well, what to change next time, which family members loved or hated it.

That's the bit of software I miss most about having a Mac, there are other similar programs but none quite as good and Onenote.

Can you save your scans as image files (rather than PDF) then just go into WOrd > Insert > Image and select the scan. You can also resize the images if needs be once they are in the word doc.

You can upload PDF's and Word files to Google Drive and then you can set up separate folders for say Main Meals, Starters, Puddings.
My Mind wanders, if found please return.

Wow thanks peoples. Gonna look into what you have said when I am next at work on Tuesday and see what I can do.

When I said Word document, I actually use the free OpenOffice, so not sure if this makes a difference.

Have heard of OneNote, it comes up on my computer at work (which has Word, but I don't have it at home, so don't use it for my personal documents).

Rereading everything what everyone has said, and realised I really need to get more tech savvy! But I shall practice and see what I come up with.

I have a very low tech A5 ring binder. All our favourites get written out on separate sheets & filed in there. Plus a note of what i've cooked for dinner parties, so I don't repeat recipes.

In that case Evernote is the better option. I don't find the user interface quite as well designed as Onenote but it does have the sync features that Inenote doesn't. Great if someone in work gives you a recipe, or you find one in a magazine in a waiting room it can be uploaded straight away.

High tech'. I keep them as Word documents on a 2.5" laptop hard drive in a portable enclosure. I even have hyperlinks between related recipes, ie. from lasagne to Bolognese sauce & white sauce. A back up on SkyDrive (mental note to do another upload).
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

I have Apache office - and I can save scanned documents into that. just the way you would do in Word.
