My credit report says I've taken out loans?

I'm using this sited called Noddle cause I wanted to check my credit score and it says I have borrowed from Quickbridge (Uk) LTD two times. According to Google, this is Wonga.

I have visited their site once either in 2010 or 2011, but I never ever ever took out a loan. However this site says I took out two loans on September 20th 2012 for amounts of £539 and £265.

However, their status says default which happened 21st March 2013, what does default mean?

I have never took a loan out from this company, I check my bank statements every month and I have not had that kind of money in my bank, I'm currently in college and unemployed so I think I'd notice if I had over £700 in my bank, my bank statements don't mention that kind of money so I don't understand why this site is saying I borrowed from them? What does this mean? My first thought was that someone has stolen my details but my bank statements don't mention anything about Wonga, so what's going on?

Contact noddle and ask for your file to be corrected and updated. This might also flag up if a fraudulent application has been made using your details, there is anecdotal evidence that pay day lenders procedures haven't been exactly perfect and if so you want to sort this out before it causes you any problems.

Probably best also getting the £2 statutory reports from equifax and experian whilst you're at it to check if anything adverse is noted on there.
  • It sounds like identity theft to me.

Someone stole your details to use your credit history to take out loans. They will have had them paid into their own (presumably new and made for this purpose) bank accounts.

I can't help you any further than that but I do know that alot of the payday lenders go into quite alot of trouble not too long ago for not having stringent enough checks on those they were lending money too. You aren't the only person this has happened to, I'm surprised you haven't had any letters to your address from debt collection agencies though cause I'd have thought they'd register it to the same postal address as your credit file holds.

I actually did get a letter from Wonga earlier last year telling me to ring them so I Googled it and lots of people said they got the same letter and that it was a scam (It might have been this forum) so I shredded it because I knew I hadn't taken out a loan, I feel like an idiot now, I've flagged the loans on Noddle but it says they can take up to 28 days to get an answer. Do I just wait? Will they find out who stole my details?

I've had this myself last year. You need to contact Wonga and explain you didn't take out any loans with them and you want the details removed, they'll then tell you to contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 to obtain a crime reference no. or they can't do anything about it.

Once you've done this, you'll then have to provide the ref no. to Wonga I think they said it then takes approx 2 weeks for them to investigate and remove the incorrect entries on your credit file.

    Hope that helps a little.

I bet somebody you know has used your name to obtain funds from Wonga.
  • Sorry to dig up a slightly old thread now but this same thing happened to me last night and it's certainly made me see how important it is to keep a eye on your credit report.

I checked my credit score with noddle to see how much longer I have until one settled default is cleared, and was suprised and horrified to see that a loan from Quickbridge had been taken out in March 2013 and defaulted October 2013, I racked my brain to think what this could be but knew I hadn't, and even more so the address against this loan was one that I hadn't lived in since August 2012!

After seeing this thread I phoned Wonga and after waiting in line for 30mins I got told to phone another number as they don't deal with it (TIP: phone this number, it is the Wonga Security team 0800 3166 745).

Once through to them she was very helpful, said it certainly sounds like fraud as she could find the loan being taken out but not my full details against it, and that they will investigate it and it should be sorted and wiped from my credit report in 5 - 7 days, no mention of me having to get a crime reference number as yet, but I'll update if anything changes!

Just think this is a good warning for people to keep a eye on their credit report as not living at the address anymore I had no idea at all this was happening, pretty scary!

Thanks for the info on this thread.

It would be worth checking your credit files with the other two CRAs Experian and Equifax - not all companies report to Noddle, so there could well be other loans taken out with other companies.

Thanks for the advice, I'm just wondering if the £2 report will be good enough to tell this? I don't really want to get locked into a monthly fee even if they do give a 30 day free trail.

Even if you do pay a monthly fee you just call up and cancel, its easy to do, you just need to be firm that you want to cancel.

£2 report will be fine and potentially less hassle.
