Hi
I have been struggling with extreme pain and diagnosed with arthritis of tmj so far I have seen chiropractor, had cranial therapy and have medication but don't seem to get any relief and this is making feel quite depressed now I feel like I am the only person suffering is there any permanent treatment for this condition?
Thanks

Who diagnosed you with this? Very very very unusual to get osteoarthritis of tmj, however tmj dysfunction is very very common. A chiropractor is not the person to be seeing for osteoarthritis of tmj but they may have a part to play in teaching exercises etc in treatment of dysfunction.
Surely when you had the x rays and hospital diagnosis of osteoartritis by the dental team they provided a treatment plan?0 -
Agree with Brook. TMJ Arthritis is exceptionally rare.
How was it diagnosed? How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Here are a couple of useful links http://www.patient.co.uk/health/temporomandibular-joint-disorders. http://www.mcht.nhs.uk/EasysiteWeb/getresource.axd?AssetID=4518&type=Full&servicetype=Attachment
The thing to take away is most problems can be sorted by conservative treatment but you need to be seeing the right people.0 -
I suffer quite badly with TMJ pain so just wanted to say you're not alone.
I have tried splints, exercises and nothing really works. I am lucky though that my pain comes and goes. It is so bad sometimes that I actually cry!! At the moment I am going through a good phase and I just hope it lasts.
I can't comment on the osteoarthritis stuff but just wanted to wish you well!0
