Gap in CV / Employment

Hi Folks,

Am looking for some advice.

For the last three years or so I've been a stay at home step-dad / house husband :-)

My wife and I have recently bought a house and for various reasons we've decided that it's best if I now return to work - the kids are old enough now to fend for themselves during the day, we would like a bit more of a stable income etc etc.....

During this time I've also had a small business writing iOS applications and doing a bit of web design. Not a huge amount of money involved or big enough that I wouldn't be better off going back to working for an employer.

My question is how do I approach this on my CV ? Should I state something along the lines of what I've already said in the introduction to my CV / cover letter and should I include details of what I've done with my small business in the main part of my CV ?

Thanks in advance for any advice :-)

I would leave that info for page 2 or the bottom of page 1 if it's a one page CV, remember a CV does not have to include everything you have ever done, and you should be fitting the CV to the job, a CV for a computer programmer doesn't need all the family stuff, if you want to add it, then a line at the end will be enough.

No one cares about the family. The small business, sure. Explain that it was a small operation to fit around family commitments but that you did XYZ (the skills needed for the role you are doing). Great thing about having done your own business you know every part.
