Cream / frosting like a bakery, no butter?

I love the cakes from my local bakery, but the filling of a birthday cake or frosting on top of a cupcake is not buttercream. I can only describe it as being a fake type of cream. I really dislike the buttery taste of butter cream, does anyone have an alternative recipe please?

Buttercream made properly, with the right ratio of icing sugar/butter and mixed until it's almost white shouldn't taste buttery at all. Perhaps the bakery it using it but to a different recipe than you are used to.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Try American frosting. I had it earlier this week in a coffee-cake, I thought it ruined the cake (which was crying out for a butter icing) but hey-ho.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
