House price rises 'must stop'

That said, I do have an issue with Cable regarding why, as a government minister, has he not done more to bring this about. Surely he should either have had more success in influencing policy, or resign on the basis that the policies being implemented are not something he can support.
It's simple. He doesn't give a fig about most of the stuff he spouts - that's why he's done precisely nothing.
Whether he's right or wrong isn't a problem Vince thinks about.0 -

He's said some guff in his time, but when an MP is willing to stand up for what he thinks is right, against everyone around him, that deserves respect, especially considering he's essentially right here.
You and I can speak up.
A cabinet minister should (and could) be doing more than speaking up. I pull your leg about doing nothing - Cable does the same.Graham_Devon wrote: »Of course, you could just state he's just wanting the limelight to write all of his points off, but I genuinely don't think that's the case here.
Of course that's what you think. In this case you agree with what he's saying. Fickle.0 -
House prices are FAR too high. A piece of land might go for £1000 if it
is farming land, but £80000 if it is building land. Large swaithes of our
uglier countryside should be redesignated as building land. As the cost of building land falls, so the cost a building houses on it falls. Also planning permission-use it or lose it.This stops land speculation0 -

Right. So a farmer owns enough land for 100 houses. It's worth £100K. The council is going to come along and say "Oi. I've just given your land planning permission". All that means is the farmer can now sell it for £8 million to Taylor Wimpey......
Or do you mean the council buys it for £100K, gives itself planning permission, gets Taylor Wimpey to build 100 houses, and then rents the houses out? Fine. Nothing wrong with that.....
.... except the market value of a plot of building land remains at £80,000.0 -
Screwing the farmers over it sound like.0
