Getting a mortgage post-BR

Hello again :j
I am currently renting a flat with my partner, which is fine, but in the long term we would obviously like to settle with a mortgage. I am 23 and was discharged from my bankruptcy about a year ago.
I know that bankruptcy stays on your credit file for 6 years, but as for what happens after that i am really confused, no-one ever really seems to know! Before i went BR i was told by the citizens advice people i would easily get a mortgage after the 6 years is up, but other people seem to think otherwise.
Does anyone have any more information? And also, would there be any chance at all of me managing to get one before the six years is up, or am i looking at renting for now?
Thankyou guys,
Sarah.

Yes you can get a mortgage now. You might have to pay a bit over the odds at first but once your credit rating improves you can switch to a normal rate mortgage.0
