Job evaluation query..am I getting ripped off?

Hi
I'm hoping someone can give me some good advice as I feel in a bit of a quandary at the moment. My Organisation has recently gone rough a job evaluation exercise and I was quite lucky to learn that my job had been regraded higher. Obviously I was delighted to hear that I would be receiving some back pay as the evaluation process had taken a couple of years :j
However now at the end of the consultation period I have been told they have given me e wrong information. I am currently at the top of the grade for the post and haven been since I was recruited in 2012, but they now they are saying in the new scheme I have to work from the bottom grade up...meaning I won't reach the top grade for another 2 years!!
I don't want to appear greedy but surely if I was recruited at the top grade in 2012 I should still be at the top of the grade now??
. If anyone can offer any advice (even if its to agree with my employer) then I would be grateful as I'm not in the Union.
Cheers guys

when did you exactly start working for them?Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0

I would expect them to slide you over into the new band scale at the next salary point up from your present position and you continue from there.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

Thanks for the responses..
I have been working at the company for over 6 years and changed to my new post in 2012. At the interview I was offered the top increment for the post and have been told all the way through consultation that I would move across at the top and received a letter of confirmation of this, but when I signed the acceptance, I got an email saying they had got it wrong and attached another letter for me to sign.
When I asked for an explanation I was told that I would start at the bottom of the new scale from 2011 and then need to work my way up again??
I'm so confused and don't know if I can argue my point without getting tied up in knots.0 -
What is there normal procedure for pay rises when someone is promoted?0

So did they make a mistake then or now?
What exactly is the "mistake" or are they attempting to use this as an excuse to simply save money?
The job evaluation handbook should have allowances for this type of scenario - what does it say?
Join a trade union, the situation is unlikely to improve with time.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
Thanks again for the replies...the situation is very wooly to say the least as there is no handbook, just email updates. I agree with your thinking that it is a cost saving exercise, however it just doesn't feel fair.
A friend has told me to submit a grievance but it seems a tad extreme?
I've asked for the reason in writing so hopefully I can get some clarity when I go back on Monday.
Thanks again for your responses...now I don't feel so stupid questioning their actions. Cheers0
