Any tips on buying a new sofa? Went into DFS the other day and keep hearing bad reviews about them. Any other recommended sites or shops? Thanks.

It depends on what your budget is but I've always favoured Multiyork furniture. Definitely not the cheapest , but real quality items, built to last. I think it's always best to try to pick a well respected brand unless you want to be be changing your furniture on a fairly regular basis.
You need to go instore to see the full range of available fabrics etc. as the website only really shows a handful. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Start with John Lewis and get some tips on what to look for in a good sofa. Remember you won't get champagne if all you have is cash for lemonade.0

Thanks Cattie, will have a look.
Any other places people recommend?0 -
You have had good advice already, my little gem!
A heavy sofa is a good sofa.
If you can pick the end up . its made of lightweight wood and won't last.
I like Furniture Village. When I had a problem with a dining room chair , their service was good. replaced very quickly, with no problems.0 -
Could try Argos0

Our last 2 sets of sofas have been from DFS , one set lasted 10 years before needing to be replaced, the current ones are 7 years old and still look pretty good.0

Our sofa was from DFS, its only 2 years old but still in great condition. ordering was easy and they delivered on time.0

Don't dispose of your current sofa until the new one is delivered, else you'll be asking where you stand should the new one not turn up!0

My sofa is a 30+ year old Ercol which has been re-upholstered a few times.... and will probably last another 30+ years.
You either buy budget and then change every few years - which suits some people as they like to keep on trend OR you buy quality in a classic design... budget and manufacturer are just as important as the supplier.
John Lewis would be my shop of choice as they have a good aftersales service if things go wrong.:hello:0 -
I have a couple of DFS sofas, after using Ikea, Debenhams and M&S - all of which couldn't take the use that my nieces love to put them through! We've had the DFS ones for 2 years and they look exactly as I did when we bought them. We also took out the 5 year spillage cover and have had the cleaning team out twice, they were fab and in my mind worth it!
John Lewis are very very expensive - I personally don't believe in paying that kind of money for something I sit on occasionally.0
