Ok heres one - maybe someone can shed some light on this...
Hamper, reduced to clear at a store, none in stock centrally but have some in stock in a store that is not local. Willing to reserve it so I can go an collect it but not willing to ship it to me because it contains alcohol.
Although you can freely order the same product on the website (if it was in stock).
Is this just a load of preverbal rubbish or does it make sense to others?

The shop will need a different licence for selling alcohol in store and by mail. The license is done by venue, and not shop name. So the license doesn't cover "Tesco", it would cover "Tesco, 1 Main Road".
The physical store the hamper is currently at will only have a licence to sell in store. They cannot do mail order. The internet orders will come from a central warehouse which is licensed to sell alcohol by mail.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

This is the most coherent and enlightened answer I have received. Shame John Lewis couldn't offer a similar answer when dealing with me.
Alas I decided against the purchase as the contents where not even worth it.0
