CCS Collect, what happens if I ignore?

Hi,

I've received a "Notice of Intended Legal Action" letter from CCS Collect today, which relates to £800 owing to a water utility company.

I do owe this money so this is not a question about contested debt, rather I'd like to know what will happen if I ignore the letter & refuse to deal with CCS? Will the debt simply be transferred back to the utility company?

I should say that I have been paying the utility company every week by standing order, however I'm on DLA & ESA so the amount I've been paying has been quite nominal, hence the debt ( I have not been deliberately avoiding or withholding payment from them, in other words.)

I would like the debt to be passed back to the water company, since I'd rather deal with/pay them than a Debt Collection Agency, however I'm not sure how exactly I should handle this... whether ignoring the letter/phone calls will backfire & simply result in court action & more debt, in other words?

Anyway sorry for such a basic question & thanks for any advice

There are various possibilities as to what would happen if you ignore it.

One possibility is that the next correspondance is a county court claim for the debt with CCS Collect being the claimant.

Another is that the water company may write to you to inform you the debt has been sold/assigned to CCS Collect.

Another is that CCS continue to write to you chasing you to set up a payment and threatening court action but not taking action.

Another is that you may get a county court claim for with the water company as the claimant.

I wouldn't just ignore it. I would contact the water company to see if you should continue payments to them or if you need to pay the debt collection company. If the latter then I would write to the DCA to make a repayment offer at the same rate you have been paying previously.

Why are you making life hard for yourself.

Why not just pay it and get it over with and you are free and clear.

What is the difference between paying CCS and paying the water company.

Hi, well basically because I can't afford it.. I simply don't have £800 to pay the amount & almost certainly couldn't afford whatever installment payments they're likely to demand either (although admittedly this will be probably be true in either case though - water company or CCS...)

My apologies, I misread your post and thought you said you had the money to pay.

I would follow Tixys advice, she knows what she is talking about x

And good luck with it xx
