Free diets and meal plans?

My boyfriend is going to try and lose some weight, his exercise options are limited due to spinal injury so we are looking for some sort of diet plan. He doesnt want to join weight watchers or slimming world.

Are there any online calorie controlled meal plans or sites for free?

We have downloaded a calorie tracker just want some help to plan ahead and buy in suitable food

thanks in advance

  • Try slenderkitchen.com, all recipes have been calculated with weight watchers points. Its an American site, I have tried quite a few of their recipes and enjoyed them. I did just sign up for 1 years meal plans at $25, I work full time and am always short of time so the meal plan was a good idea for me as it gives you the meal plan, recipes and shopping list, so I will probably do an internet shop one a week using the shopping list they provide. We only just started this week and have enjoyed the food so far. There is no need to pay though as you can work out your own meal plan as all recipes are free to everyone.

I also found a website called yummly.com today that had good recipes and a tool where you can enter 3 main ingredients and search for recipes using these, but have yet to make anything from their recipes.
  • Forgot to mention one other website I saw that looked good and had free diet recipes and advice, it called three fat chicks on a diet :rotfl:

https://www.3fatchicks.com. Might be worth looking at too
  • I would recommend The Harcombe diet. No need for calorie counting, exercising or pre-made meals. It's all about eating fresh, homemade food.

It's the easiest, most efficient diet I've tried and have been very happy with it.

Would recommend you buy the book & the recipe book that accompanies the diet. I bought both quite cheaply of Amazon & Ebay. It explains why calorie counting doesn't work for example.

Have you looked into the 5:2 diet? Doesn't have to cost you a penny.

    his exercise options are limited
Exercise just make one more hungry and is really a waste of time as far as weight loss goes.

I lost four stone by cutting out wheat, rye, barley & oats plus calorie counting for the first couple of months until I got in the swing of what I could get away with eating.

One tip though, include treats in there. I have dark chocolate every day and wine three days a week.

As to exercise, short high intensity sessions worked for me. I do body weight only, doing three 10-15 minute sessions a week. My resting pulse started at about 60 and is now low to mid 40ies.

  • thanks everyone, will look into all of these option :D
  • My fitness pal is excellent if you want to manage calories in and calories out. Since I've been using it I've also got interested in tracking other things like sugar, fibre and protein intake and how they relate to my mood and how hungry I feel. I think if he can approach it as more than just food restriction it should help, especially if he has time on his hands.

I understand exercise options are limited but exercise really does help with motivation for healthy eating - is there anything he can do, however small?

I do 5:2 and what's great now is that there are so many recipe books that offer lovely meals that suit somebody doing 5:2, so you could use those for ideas even within a normal diet. I love the Hairy Bikers books - recipes for all sorts of meals there with reasonable calorie count
