2014 starts my MF journey- going with the flow

I have dipped in and out of this section of the forum for years and read in awe!
I now think I may be debt free apart from my mortgage but will confirm once all the Christmas bills are in
I have had a mortgage for several million years and still owe more than 84k I think :embarasse
I wasted years with a 'one account type mortgage' that I did not use properly I never actually paid anything off the debt just paid interest..... an expensive mistake but thats life!
Anyway I now find myself in a position to overpay :j and have a Halifax repayment mortgage so I've just registered for online banking and will ring them tomorrow to see if I/how I can overpay.
I'd love to do this in 5 years but the last five years have thrown redundancies and periods of unemployment and various other dramas so it's a fluid goal that will go with the flow.
I also intend to have a cheap holiday every year as I love diving and you need to live this life
Not sure what else I can do until I've spoken to the Halifax but here goes:eek:

Well I called Halifax today and I have a 3.99% repayment mortgage with 13 years left to run  however overpayments are unlimited so thats perfect.
I have signed up for online banking and am waiting for my authentication code to come in the post then I shall start chipping away.
With the spreadsheet I downloaded from this board I have played with the figures and will aim to pay at least £1700pcm instead of my usual £686, this anticipates a MF date of Aug 2018
This will be my aim, and hopefully life, job market etc will be kind to me.
Feeling a tad excited:oLBM- finally kicked in 16/12/08 @ [strike]£41,862 [/strike] £0.00/ DFD- 24/12/13

Well done on your new aims and I can really feel your motivation and excitement! Brilliant that you signed up for Halifax online banking... This is truly our biggest motivator, seeing our mortgage balance on our online banking, so we can literally see that number go down each time we OP. £1700pcm is a huge payment, make sure you're still able to eat!! And have a little fun!
Well done too on your debt free date (we hope, have you checked yet!?) and it's great that instead of letting go of the reins you've moved on to your MFW ambition! Subscribed and will follow with interest. KK xx:heartsmil Stay-at-home-mummy of two, pinching the pennies but loving it! :heartsmil

Hi olderbutnotwiser, just wanted to say welcome and best of luck with your new mf challenge
MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Good luck OlderButNotWiser!
Wish I could see my mortgage balance online, if you're anything like me the temptation to OP a few pence to round down to the nearest full £ every time you login would be massive (and I'd probably be logging in daily lol!), then again with £1700 monthly payments you're well away already!!
Firm believer in paying down debt AND living life, so an annual diving holiday is definitely the way to go :cool:0
