have just had advice from stepchange about a budget plan to deal with our debt. firstly they advised to make sure rent, water, gas, electric ,council tax are all up to date they must come first then contact credit card people, clubs etc to tell therm your situation .i have contacted my credit card people who have told me i will recieve a default letter but dont reply .i explained to them that a budget plan will be put in place when all the facts are gathered together .i rang stepchange to explain what the credit card people told me .they tried to reasure me everything will be ok but i just cannot stop worrying about it .have just read on a website what could happen when you get a default letter im even more depressed now even though ive been told not to worry by stepchange very depressing.

It's scary to start with but stick with it. You will get there.

    Good luck.

You may get a few calls initially but it will soon calm down. Just forward them to step change with your reference number.

I'm just coming to the end of a 7 year DMP and haven't had one phone call from anyone I owe money to since they all accepted the plan. To be honest a lot of the company's sold my debt to debt collection agency's and I have always found them easier to deal with than the banks.

It will be a weight of your shoulders once everything is in place.

    Good luck.
