Probably a silly question but to hit the 31 day does it have to be in the same month so 1st - 31st August or can it just be a continual 31 days?

The short answer is yes, but apparently that is too short an answer to post

It is counted from the first day of the month until the last day. So if you only joined on say 23 August, the most you could get is a 7 day run.
