Right this is it. No more hiding from the inevitable and making moves like an ostrich.
I have spent 2013 mostly hiding from my debts, panicking, panicking some more. And in between buying stuff I don't actually need rather than dealing with the problems in hand.
Let me tell you about my LBM moment last week. More like a strobe light if you will. Knowing I am going to be skint after Christmas with DDs bouncing away, what did I do?..... I bought a juicer.... That's right..... A bloody juicer. And 53 apples 4 pineapples 2 cucumbers, and an assortment of other vegetables and fruit.
My theory behind this was that I was going to detox my way through the new year. Feel more positive, energetic etc.
The grim reality is that it lasted a day. The following day I spent in bed with a migrane to end all migranes, feeling sorry for myself that I didn't slim magically to a size 8 overnight and I was £50 down for my efforts.
The juicer is going back today for a refund. I can't bear to look at it. I need to get serious about becoming DF this year.
I have been on to Stepchange and have a nice spangly new budget to stick to. This should help me pay off my mortgage arrears within 6 months. Lucky for me I don't have any credit card debt. Simply because no-one is stupid enough to give me one.
I do however owe council tax £2000 and various other bits and pieces which I need to deal with this year.
Goals for 2014 are as follows:
1) take control of my financial situation
2) no more juicers or similar fads which I was never going to stick to anyway
3) get an emergency fund together
4) get myself together
5) spend more quality time with my family and stop stressing about my debts. I am dealing with them now so they can't continue to rule me!
The sad thing is if someone else posted the above I would find it amusing. Hell I'd probably laugh. But I'm not laughing, though I will be...

Just waved husband, ds and juicer off in the car. Hopefully I will get the £25 refunded back on to my card. Still leaves me with £20 worth of pineapples and friends! Smoothie anyone??
In other news I have been looking at ways of reducing our current monthly dd spend. We are currently paying £53.92 on car insurance for my oh per month. Quick check on the price comparison websites show we can make a yearly saving of £372.66 by switching!
Add that to the (hopefully) refunded juicer savings and that makes. £397.66! That'll do me for today! Half a month's mortgage payment!

I have also made some new friends on the Sealed Pot Challenge and have £1.65 that's taken up residence in the pot.
Nice bottle of cava chilling in the fridge with some 3 for 2 party food in true MSE style for tonight. Usually I would be spending £30 on a takeaway and then moaning that I didn't like it .
Happy New Year's Savings everyone!! :beer:Sealed Pot Challenge No. 2860 -
Hi noodle! I know I shouldn't laugh, but your OP was so funny! :rotfl:
It sounds like something I would do - Get an itch to start something, waste a ton of money, then realize I was never going to stick to it xD
Well...lesson learnt! Least you realized before your warranty ran out!

Aww thanks Domayne. I was just having a read through your diary ! Good luck to you with that.
OH has just returned without the juicer ! Yay! £25 better off than I was this morning. There is however now a vacant space on the worktop in the kitchen. Need to start rearranging quickly or I'll end up with another useless gadget!Sealed Pot Challenge No. 2860 -
Or you could just enjoy the space - A clutter free house is a clutter free mind...Or so they say!

Noodledoodle78 - good luck and congrats on starting your diary - I love a good chuckle and chuckle I did - we have all done things like that. I remember joining a very expensive gym one year and working out it cost me £60 a swim I went so infrequently. Subscribed

Thanks Penny. I am a member of a local gym too. It's just across the road from where I live so no excuse not to go. And I have added benefit that they phone me asking where I am when I go AWOL!
The idea of the juicer was partly to compliment the gym. I think I am the only person in the world that can go to the gym four times a week and put on weight. I was actually contemplating telling the trainer that it was of course muscle because of my hard work and determination, until she pulled out her body fat scanner. This promptly confirmed an increase in body fat. Mortifying!Sealed Pot Challenge No. 2860 -

Love it laughing my head off. So funny that's me all over.
I have a gym ball now in my bedroom moved it in today as lodger moving in tomorrow from the bedroom it was hiding in. Had this gym ball 5 yrs been in every room in the house and never used it once. So unless I use it in January it is going, if it wasn't inflated I would have an excuse.
I went to slimming world and put on weight. Perhaps I need a juicer lol.
Good luck with the juicer refund and yr shiny new diary.LBM 13039 1.1.13 Now £0 Finally Debt FreeMortgage free Oct 2019:)EFund/savings £25000 10/11/220 -
Thank you for all your comments and support.
Calling, think of the exercise and calories burned moving from room to room! I also tried Slinming World. Until my friend showed the group the photos of the takeaways I had been that week to put her off. We both thought it was funny. The other 80 people in the room not so much so! Never managed a return visit!Sealed Pot Challenge No. 2860
