in Cutting tax
Hi,
I am new to the site and have been advised to write this post in the cutting tax section.
I left my job at the end of June 2013 which had Bupa Health Insurance as a benifit and my tax code was 853L as a result.
I started my new Job on 1st July which has no benifits in kind. I phoned the tax office to tell them I no longer had the healthcare and wanted my tax code adjusted and they told me the following.
Does this sound correct, is there anything I can do to change this?
Many Thanks.

- If my former employer paid for the healthcare annually (Which they do) then they cant change my tax code until the next tax year.

If your old employer paid for your benefit annually, before you left I guess, then you have to pay tax on this whole amount so you need it in your tax code for the whole tax year0

So have you checked with the previous employer if the insurance was/is given to you for the whole tax year, calendar year or only until your leaving date? In the past, based on my experience, if there was employer's confirmation, HMRC would normally agree to apportion benefits in kind included in the tax code to reflect the actual period such benefits were received. This could be done on the phone. Good luck.0

Thanks for the reply,
When i spoke to my former employer they said that although they pay Bupa annually my contribution was monthly and and my health insurance stopped on the 30th June 2013.
I will phone HMRC again and see what they say0
