parking eye at hospital

Hi all, after reading a bunch of info on this site sorry to be bothering you again with another parking eye issue. I work for the nhs and travel around about 40 hospitals all over the north. Whenever there is parking eye I always pay the fee but if its pay and display I always but a sign in my window saying im on official business in department bla bla. I was at wansbeck hospital a week ago and put the sign on my window and went in to go to work n do my thing for a few hours then left thinking nothing of it, however I just got a parking charge notice tjrough my door yesterday. I didn't even know it was a parking eye hospital.

I was about to send an appeal to the enail address on the charge notice explaining it was a genuine mistake but then I seen some info stating I should just say 3 points and thats all. So should I try a genuine appeal or say something specific?

I contacted estates at that hospital but they say I have to appeal through parking eye.

Ps sorry if my typing is a bit rubbish I hate using my phone for long bits of text, thanks.

  • Hi there Bumper

You're right, normally we advise a certain course when it comes to tackling these scam charges issued by the parking companies (note that Parking Eye does not have pride of place among its peers, they are the same rubbish as the rest of them - the only thing that sets Parking Eye apart is that they must love the taste of humble pie).

Your case is clearly different and stronger than anyone else's because you had official business. Write to them telling them this, copy something if you can that would constitute proof and with a bit of luck, they will cancel it. If not and they decide to send you down the POPLA route, well it is their loss. If they do this, by all means return to this thread with the details and without doubt someone will help you build a solid statement which will knock Parking Eye back.

    You owe nothing, just relax!

something like this should do for a soft appeal, but you will probably be rejected and have to go to popla, unless you have excellent mitigating circumstances for PE
    Dear Parking Eye

I am as the registered keeper of ( reg) and in receipt of your notice to keeper xxxxx dated xxxxxx, all liability to your company is denied, so as the registered keeper I wish to invoke your appeals process on the following:

    1) This charge is not a genuine pre-estimate of loss
    2) You do not have the authority or permission to give these invoices to motorists
    3) Your signage is inadequate, and does not comply with the BPA Code of Practice

You are therefore invited to cancel this charge now, or supply a popla verification code to appeal to them on rejection, where you will be asked for a detailed breakdown of the above.
As you know all appeals on the points above are upheld.

Please confirm cancellation within 35 days of the above date

    Faithfully
    The registered keeper
add a short mitigation to it, preferably with proof it was official business too

then start a draft popla appeal for perusal on here if needs be
  • Read the thread titled Mr McDonald and contact Annie Laverty at the trust.
  • Thanks for the advice everyone! I decided to contact the trust again directly before persuing an appeal and this time I managed to get it wiped off the system by them which is good!

Well done! You will see I have added your success to this Sticky thread, as the second one at Wansbeck Hospital (first one cancelled by Tracey Davidson):

Personally I would also hedge your bets in case PE don't actually drop it. Do an online appeal to PE now and tick the box that you are the registered keeper (never divulge the driver at this stage). State that the Trust have cancelled the charge and in any case it was unjustified and not a genuine pre-estimate of loss so if they do not cancel it for the Trust on request, they should treat this email as your 'challenge' and you will require a POPLA code in the post.

P.S. We know how to win 100% of POPLA appeals so a POPLA code would be OK (PE are litigious, hence my suggestion of an online appeal to cover your back).

The problem is that when Parking Eye issue a parking charge, the first £53 has to cover their expenses... you know, camera installation, erecting sigs, paper for their typewriter, updating from Windows 95 to Windows 98, the electricity bill for their telex machine, all adds up!

...what are Parking Eye going to do now they wasted £53??
