Cooking dried haricot beans?

Can anyone give me some quick help about cooking dried haricot beans....I've only ever used tinned beans but I'm determined to use the dried ones up that have been lurking around my cupboard.
I want to put them in a stew in the slow cooker, I've googled and now I'm confused as there are too many different suggestions.
I'm going to soak them overnight - what do I then do with them before bunging them into the slow cooker? Saint Delia says cook at a boil for 2 to 3 minutes and then leave to stand for an hour, but other sites say boil for an hour? Am I right in thinking I can just boil for say 10 minutes and then bung them in the slow cooker?
My nearly 80 year old father lives with us and I'd rather not make him ill!
Thanks

haricot beans wont make you ill. its red kidney beans which will do that if you don't boil them to death.
soak them overnight - yes - bring them to the boil and slow cook in the slow cooker. they should be fine.0 -
Thanks, that makes me more confident, I'll give them a go xPiglet
