Hi all, I have switched to quite a few tesco value items and been pleasantly surprised so I thought I would check online as to what other value items they do and there were loads, most of which though I have never seen in my local store. So i was possibly going to do an online shop to try all these bits and pieces my question is though if its not in stock do they still give you alternative items or just cancel them from your shopping? Has anyone ever done a complete value shop?
Thanks Claire

Hi Claire, i haven't done a complete value shop myself, but with regard to substitutions, you can opt not to have them, so your shop should be low cost and will therefore not contain unexpected products.0

I haven't done a complete value shop with Tescos but certainly have had my value items subbed with branded replacements at no extra cost to myself, if that helps.
When my DGS was due I was ordering lots of value baby stuff and getting upgraded to Johnson's and Tescos standard products.
This was a regular occurrence on the boards. Also they did it often with the cheap coco pops and subbing for their own standard ones.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

Hi, just to test this out, just done a full Tesco Value dummy shop on mysupermarket and the results amazed me. I always thought that A$da would be cheaper. I was wrong.
Tesc0 was the cheapest at £26.60.
A$da was £33.10 :eek:.
Sainsbobs was £41.03 :eek::eek:.
I think I may need to change where I shop, but the only reason I shop at A$da is because it's a stones throw away. My nearest big Tesc0 is a bus ride away, and I don't drive so it makes it difficult to get there.Feb NSD's 2/10 under my belt.

You can opt not to have any substitutions though Tesco do price match subs...so fill your basket with value products and any that are out of stock you may well receive own brand or branded at no extra cost to you.0

even though I am a stone's throw away from A$da too, I might give this a go too..got nothing to lose, but possibly a better quality items to gain..Might be worth doing it once every now and again to bulk buy the tins etcWork to live= not live to work0

I'm a fan of Tesco Value too
They seem to have a better range of value stuff than Asda, which is why I shop with them. I recently discovered the value section on the website and was surprised how much they actually do.
I haven't done a shop of only value items but Tesco are usually good with their substitutions and will give you a more expensive product if they don't have the value one. You only pay the price of the item you ordered. However, sometimes they do get it wrong and they don't match on quantity e.g. if you order a 500g packet of something at 50p, they may give you a branded product priced/price matched at 50p but only a 200g packet. It usually works in my favour but watch out for that! You can send back anything you don't want and all substitutions are listed so you can check on the door step.
Sometimes they do completely cancel an item but it's rare.0 -
I would thoroughly recommend doing a value shop and ask for substitutions. They do not charge you any extra for the subs so even if the value items are not there the worst you will get is a better standard product0
