I am one of the victims of the terrible service provided by First Great Western. I have found that it really does pay to complain, not just claim refunds. I have complained to my MP several times about the service, via email. My MP forwards these to the train company and I receive large value train vouchers as a result .
PLEASE complain to your MP about bad train services, and keep complaining.

What are the details of the complaints?0

Never tried complaining via my MP before, must give it a try one day and see how it goes. I find complaining via twitter or facebook also gets the just deserved refunds/compo and is quicker easier then a letter.
I normally complain about late trains, toilets out of order or just staff with bad attitudesFares Advisor & Oyster Specialist - Newdeal/ukRail Fares Workshop Accredited0 -
It is quick and easy to email your MP and may generate more "good will" in terms of travel vouchers from the travel company0

I would imagine it depends very much on how good your MP is! The one for my current constituency is useless!0
