Is there any chance of us getting a mortgage ?

Hi All,
Me and my partner have been together for 4 years now (but have known each other for 12 years), My partner used to own a bungalow with her ex partner, who turned into a complete psychopath, She wanted to sell the property but he refused, but he didn't want the property either, refused to take his name off the mortgage etc and long story short we ended up moving to wales to get away and the house got repossessed because of this (he was controlling, violent, threatening us and the children, etc).
Since then we have been in rented properties, which we have found a complete and utter nightmare, constantly moving every 4+ months, not being allowed to do the most simplist of things like hanging a picture on the wall, dishonest estate agent, dishonest landlords, you name it!
My partner is disabled (has arthritis and scoliosis) so can't walk far, partial wheelchair user.
Our youngest also has juvenille arthritis and uveitis so i am a full time carer for both.
We struggle very much to find any kind of property with adaptations, so right now my partner has to sleep downstairs in her chair in the living room as she simply can not get upstairs, i carry our youngest up and down the stairs.
No land lords will let us add adapations to properties.
And our local council simple refuse to help us, we managed to get on the housing list put into band 3 (second from lowest) which get's you nothing with an average waiting time of 8+ years.
So we are stuck in our situation where only having our own home would stop this.
But of course with her reposession (was nearly 2 years ago) and the fact i am unemployed (full time carer) are we likely to get anything at all?
We have a deposit of 10k but a bungalow will set us back around 100k+
Are we seriously screwed?

There may be a chance of doing it all in your name assuming the deposit is all yours and your income is enough.
Otherwise a 10% deposit is not going to be enough to overcome a repossession. You would be looking at more like 25-30% and probably another year or so as a minimum.
Im sure there were reasons for the repossession as you say but in a lenders eyes you have effectively come up against an issue and left it for them to sort out - lenders can only go off your past credit to see how you will be in the future. The better thing would have been to seek legal advice and have the sale forced through.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Hi ACG,
Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunetly as i am a full time carer i do not work, So recieve only carers allowance, income support (for both of us) and housing benefit, while partner recieves DLA (Higher rate).
So i do not think i could do a solo application ?0 -
Your income alone would not be enough to cover a mortgage so no, this is one where you would need to save up a bigger deposit and give it another year or 2.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Would anything like this be suitable instead?0 -
Also, If the reposession was "settled" on the credit file would that help to get a mortgage?0

A repossession is pretty bad, settled or not your partner still effectively had the roof over her head taken away from her. Its looked at differently than a credit card or unsecured loan for example... i know there is more to it than that based on what you have said but i dont think any lender is going to look beyond that with less than a 25% deposit.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
