in Cutting tax
hi there my partner has just received a tax rebate cheque to cash at the bank
the address on the cheque is our old address and she has changed her bank address to our new house.
does she take it to the local bank branch explain and cash it
or
does she take it to tax office to change the address on it

There is no address on the cheque. Only on the tear off cover. If it's yours - you simply bank it. You only present the cheque portion.
Don't discuss it with the counter staff. There is no need and they are quite likely to decline it if you give the impression its come into your hands by error.
You must advise HMRC of your new address. The employer won't.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

a cheque for the sum of £xxx.xx is attatched below

Apologies. I get an annual refund from HMRC and was certain the address was only on the tear off carrier slip above the cheque. I will check the next one!
But the advice remains - just bank it. The Bank won't check the address unless your partner starts drawing attention to it. It has no material effect on the validity of the cheque.
But do get her to update her address with HMRC. There's an online facility here :

Indeed. It is a 'normal' cheque and therefore clears to the normal 2-4-6 cycle. ie the money will be available 4 working days after deposit in a normal current account.
Sorry - New Year will add an extra day accordingly.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
