What's wrong with my mondeo?

The car is a dud. Sorry mate.
Source: I've had a Mk3 Mondeo myself, my neighbor has had one, a friend of mine is trying to get shot of his as he's had enough too.
I had the 2.0 petrol model and nothing but a catalog of problems.
- The Central Locking failed multiple times. It got to the stage where the driver's door wouldn't open. It would whir, open and then close up again. Entry was either via the boot or hope the passenger door had remained open. Turned out to be the General Module; cost me £400 to replace. Problem reoccured another year later, again traced back to the general module. After this I said sod it and quit locking the car. Better to just leave it unlocked than waste yet MORE money on it! Ford's response was that this was completely out of the ordinary yet the Mondeo forums noted it as a "known issue"... no help in other words.
- The plastic butterfly latches broke up inside the head and fell into cylinder wrecking the top end. Cost me £1500 to have the top end repaired. Again, Ford said mine was a unique case and I must not have maintained it well, or had dodgy services. All but one service was done by the Ford main dealer, so I guess THAT ONE, huh? But yea, Ford said I didn't maintain it, tough. Odd how the Mondeo forums AGAIN note this as a common issue and also ODD how Ford now manufacture a revised intake manifold to remedy this exact problem...
- I bought an Evans Halshaw warranty for £150. Four months in, the suspension collapsed requiring a new coil spring, MacPhersen strut, etc. Evans refused to honor the warranty, requiring nearly £1500 again to repair. Had various nasty phone calls and lots of angry letters. Eventually it was put down to "I must have run over a large pot hole, etc". Whatever. The Evans Halshaw warranty apparently covers NOTHING. Not a damned thing! Call me a sucker!
- The clutch went. OK, car had done 70k was six years old. Swallowed the cost of a new one. The new one lasted 6k. Ford reckoned it was my driving style. Took it to an indie who said clutch was definitely needed, but there was a "known issue" on these which meant if you fit something the standard way, it would fail prematurely.
- Coil packs would last at most 10 months. A known issue on the Mondeo forums which oddly Ford were completely flabbergasted at. Again, it must have been my "driving style" according to Ford. Odd that when they said all of this, not one of them were willing to tell me exactly what, or come on a drive with me. Just put on the smug face and imply I'm somehow a substandard driver. Pfffft.
- I bought the car for £5,000. In the three years I owned it, I spent almost £8,000 in repairs. I finally decided enough was enough when the Aircon compressor broke up. Cheapest indie quote I got to vac out and repair was £1800... and I couldn't leave it as is as the clutch was left engaged and causing strain on the timing chain (confirmed by a Ford dealer and an indie garage).
I gave up, got £550 spares and repairs for it on eBay.
Sell it, the car is utter junk! Get something decent! My OH bought a Nissan Almera. Yes, I'm slightly jealous that she hasn't spent a single penny in repairs going on nearly 2 years now... and she only paid £2000 for it and canes 20k miles a year on it!
Obviously, given my "driving style" is clearly incompatible with Ford cars, I don't intend to buy another ever again!0 -
The GEM was probably not at fault. Mis-diagnosed. The drivers door modules was probably faulty all along.
Prices are all way over the top. How much for the springs? I had a pair supplied and fitted for £120.
The manifold is an issue on petrol cars and even the revised one seems not to have fully cured the problem.
My last petrol Mondeo had nothing but basic servicing, Brakes and tyres.
My current diesel has had a bit more, But still nothing excessive and all cheap.
Tyres, Brakes, 2 springs, Exhaust.
I have owned it just over 4 years so not that bad.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Op, you need to read the codes using the F-super that another poster mentioned. You need to see what the fuel pressure is. Injector pumps usually run at 35,000 PSI, so if you are reading much less than this, then it could be the pump.Never Knowingly Understood.

Sit in the car hold the trip button and turn the ignition to position ii
hold 5 seconds, now scroll through on the trip button to DTC and write down the codes.
The code readers can not see many of the engine codes on these and they have to be done via the dash for fuel, crank, cam, air, temp sensors, only thos built after sept 2004 are they fully obdii code reader ready so 55 plate upward to be safe.
Try that trick with a pen and paper and write any codes, it will lose any fuel data but dont worry.
The cam sensors on these do play up as well and that would cause all these faults of poorly timed fuel .Be happy...;)0 -
Dash DTC codes are useless. Waste of effort. If your lucky it will shows one or 2 codes. But wont relate to your problem.
I bet its got a 918 fault. Lots do. But nothing actually comes up on the code readers. Just a dash issue.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
It can show coms between the cam, crank and speed sensors, lets see what they come up with.
I have the full list of DTC codes from the dash, so lets wait and see.
Myself I would change the cam sensor they do cause no end of problems when they start playing up .Be happy...;)0
