  • One thing I noticed on MSE forum, the so-called MSE experts believe they have the moral entitlement to judge others.

Paying £250 a month won't remove the default, so he credit is trashed already.

And as the OP can't organise their finances, they really should NOT (I fixed that for you) be thinking about taking on store cards or loans.

How did you know that OP cant organise his finances, OP got into this situation because he lost his job.

If some people bother to read what OP wrote, he decided to pay £150 monthly instead of £250, to avoid further financial difficulties which can snowball from there on.

As the above said, go to your bank and discuss the situation with them, hopefully you can work something out with them.

Why should he be allowed to decide what he wants to pay? He signed an agreement to pay 250 a month, so that is what he should be paying - along with sorting out his arrears.

Moral entitlement too judge others = having an opinion.
Anyway, who says I can't judge whatever the hell I want? Don't be so ridiculous.

Op did not get into this situation because he lost his job. He got into this situation because he could not meet his financial commitments.

As the OP now has a well paid job ( his words) yet still can't meet these same commitments, I don't know how you conclude he is financially responsible!

He won't even bother to log in again.

Am just going to leave this here ;)
Please be nice to all MoneySavers : There's no such thing as a stupid question and, even if you disagree, courtesy helps.
Please be sensitive : This may be a web forum, but you're still talking to other human beings. Repeatedly or harshly saying someone's wrong, especially on boards like DebtFreeWannabe, Bankruptcy or Benefits, can lead to upset.

hello I am new to here and I am looking for much needed advice I lost my job in 2012 and had a loan out with them etc I couldn't repay any other the loan so they defaulted it
how ever I did go to cab and they wrote for me a offer to pay a amount however they declined. I have now got a quite well paid job and I rang Santander up and offerd to pay 150 pound a month original was 250 as that way I wouldn't get my self in more financial difficulty

but they said no I have to pay it in full or they will pass it on to a debt collector

OP already had a loan before he lost his job and he seems to be making his payments before he lost his job (OP could help by clarifying this). Although we dont know what the loan was for (maybe for a car) which doesnt mean he cant handle his finances properly considering the amount of cars with finances nowadays.
      • These forums are becoming very unhelpful and some people should be grateful they are not in financial trouble or face financial trouble because of some unforeseen circumstances.

The OP lost his job and was unable to pay his financial commitments which could happen to anyone. What they have not said is how much their original loan was for and how much they are in arrears. If you bank with Santander then this maybe the reason they refuse the offer as they know how much you are now receiving as salary hence their view is you can repay. It seems a strange approach for them to take if they can see you have nothing and were unemployed as I am assuming this loan was unsecured.

If the OP now has a better job then it may be better to pay the £250 per month and agreeing some additional payment for the arrears and if this means cutting back on lifestyle for a short period then so be it.

If however your credit is totally shot and you owe more than can be paid back you are maybe best asking for help on the IVA/Bankruptcy boards.
