Pets At Home Assesment Day.Has Anyone Been To One??

Hi everyone,

As the title says I have been invited to an assessment day next week.
In the email it states I would be there for up to 3 hours and they aim for it to be fun, fun, fun.!
Its for part time work, however on the application it didn't give how many hours it would be.
I took a look at our local Pets At Home and notice out of the 6 staff who were on the shop floor, every one of them were defiantly very young members of staff.
As Im well over 50 it has made me a little bit anxious.
Im still going to give it a go though and was just wondering if any forum members had ever been to a Pets At Home Assesment day.Thanks.

sorry I haven't but my local one has a couple of staff in your age range so don't let that worry you.

And another couple of staff at my local one must have missed the fun fun fun assessment day as they are miserable as sin and rude with it :rotfl:

Same here, my local Pets at Home has a 50 year old so don't be disheartened.
  • Hi, my OH went to one and got rejected although we were never sure why. She had lots to do, it really helps if you are a pet owner as she had to give a short presentation about her pets. I think she also had to sell something, can't remember what it was, something quite random like a fish tank I think.
Prepare for lots of role play as well as a more general interview.
    Times is 'ard.

    I would hate that.

I'm good with customers but can't role play, if I wanted to act I would not be going for a job at Pets@home :rotfl:

what wage is it? I bet it's crap and they make you jump through all those hoops.
  • Thanks so much for all your replies, oh heck I don't like those kind of assessment days.
Its nice to know that other shops have staff a lot older than the one I visited though.
Ive had over 30 years dealing with the public so I know I can be polite, professional and friendly but if Im put in front of a group to do a presentation, oh heck I would hate it.
As for the wages, well it didn't say on the advertisement and only said part time, again no hours were mentioned.
Fingers crossed now Christmas is almost over I might get replies to the dozens of other vacancies which Ive applied for over the past few weeks.
    Thanks so much everybody.

B&Q and Sainsburys actively recruit older staff as they find they give very good customer service and good workers
