Trying to chose white goods, Are Indesit a decent brand?

I'm trying to chose a (slimline) tumble dryer and a table-top dishwasher. I have little idea of what is best to look for but do have a price limit of £200 for the dishwasher and £250 for the tumble dryer but obviously would like them to cost even less if I can.

I need the tumble dryer to be a condenser type and would like it to have a variable temperature and as I live in a flat, would like both the tumble dryer and dishwasher to be on the quiet side.

I found something matching my description but its by Indesit and I'm not sure of the brand. From what I see their products seem to fit the bill and offer everything I want. But I have no idea how reliable they are and if they live up to what they say they do.

Has anyone any suggestions for either a tumble dryer or table-top dish washer? Has anyone had any experience of the Indesit brand?

Thank you in advance.

I have Indesit fridge-freezer, washer and separate dryer all pushing 10 years old and still going strong. Just one dryer belt in all that time !

Cannot vouch for the new stuff but the old appliances are good .

All our washing machines have been Indesit and use them a lot - I would say that we have had at least 5 years out of each of them. Also when my mum was looking for a new cooker , we were recommended to try using Appliances Online - I'd never heard of them, but they've recently started advertising , as she needed the cooker fast, and they did deliver fast - a couple of days and were pretty cheap so check them out as well as Tesco , Asda , Currys etc when looking for your white goods.

I had nothing but bad experiences with Indesit, both with a washing machine & a fridge, so wouldn't buy from them again. Though as other posters have mentioned, they have been very happy with their appliances. There will always be some happy & some unhappy customers with the majority of names that are not right at the top end of the market.

There is a site where you can get info on a company & it's reliability and a forum where you can check out problems people might have had with certain appliances. This might be quite helpful to you in making a decision. http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Our Indesit tumble dryer blew at 18 months old. Our Indesit washer blew at 3 years old. However we have an Indesit cooker and that seems to have been ok.

I've been looking for a new washing machine since just before Christmas. I choose one & couldn't find it cheaper than on https://www.ao.com Thankfully I waited & got it £90 cheaper on the same site, even though they are not advertising a sale.

I ordered on Fri pm & it came today, free delivery.
I'm really pleased with their service, came with a 5 yr warranty too!

I know several people who have had good bargains from the factory shop in Peterborough. Slight seconds with scratches to the side which can't be seen once fitted. Worth a look if you're near Peterborough or Bristol as you can't order online. You have to pay by card and they don't deliver, but sometimes you have to do a bit of work to get a bargain. http://www.indesitcompanygraded.co.uk/gr_visit.html

Thanks for all the replies :)

I had earmarked a few things on ao.com and they seem to be a good choice as they will install everything (at a small-ish fee) and this is something I'd need when ordering.

It seems Indesit are both good and bad as a brand...I was wondering if I stop looking and keep on saving and go for a Bosch but to get a Bosch for a dishwasher and a tumble dryer would cost almost double, and I can't even be sure they are that much better which leaves me in a position where I can't decide if its worth it.

At the moment I'm probably going to go with the cheaper option, if I can buy extended warranty maybe this is the way to go? Its just a lot of money for me to spend either way and I don't want to have wasted it!

I will take a look at the links to other sites, Carfal and Shammiejack, thanks for those :) but would need to set up installation, and thanks, Cattie for the link on the white goods forums, so far there is little said about Indesit and nothing on the models I've been looking at (a good sign?) but will read through more thoroughly when I get more time to later on.
  • Spares for Indesit come from Italy....and if it is an obscure part it can take up to 6 weeks. My Mil waited that long for a small part for her washing machine.
