Salmon (bones query)

Options
Hi all,

I would like to experiment with some salmon recipes but the thought of spending half my eating time fishing out bones (no pun intended!) doesn't thrill me at all. Is there anyway to avoid this as much as possible?

Thanks x

:) If you remove the backbone, the bigger bones will come with it - mostly. The smaller bones can easily be eaten by most people and are a valuable source of calcium. HTH.

  • Thanks for the reply, I was always lead to believe that eating these tiny bones was gravely dangerous as could stick in your throat??!! Particularly worried about that as I have a 6yr old DD

If you buy fillets from a fish monger you can ask them to pin bone the fillet, which will remove the fine bones.
If you buy the tail end fillets these should be boneless, alternatively you can feel the pin bones by running your finger along the fillet and remove them with tweezers - it sounds like a lot more faff than it is. Always remove the bones before you cook fish, its a lot easier.
