Best cost effective way to use electric storage heaters

Hiya,

We are due to move into first house next month and it has electric storage heaters, I no on economy 7 electric use is cheaper overnight but how does this work with storage heaters and will they successfully heat a whole house? It's rented to can't do anything about them.

    Hi,

I don't know why folk panic when they move into an E7 house, used properly it is no more expensive,

Here's a wee bit of reading for you, look.

You willl see on the heaters a boost and an input control.

Keep the boost control closed, it works a flap inside the heater to let out more heat, if used, close when going to bed at night,

The input, turn it about a third of the way round, (usually 1-6), and adjust as weather gets colder.
  • Thanks frugal for that info, the link doesn't work tho so will keep having a look online xxx

If you're on an economy 7 or ecomony 10 tariff then try and use your dishwasher/washing machine/tumble dryer during the times your electricity is cheaper. Do anything you can overnight.

The one tip I would give is to watch the weather forecast for the following day.....we had them years ago and (not so much in winter) in autumn and spring would sometimes find I had to open windows to cool the place down......

They are very simple devices, they work like this:

The heaters 'charge up' overnight using cheap rate E7 electricity. You can set this charging level according to weather using the input.

You allow the charged heat out using a control on a vent, usually marked boost. Once you have let it all out it is gone till the next re-charge.
