Moneybarn

Good morning,

I wonder if anyone can help me, I purchased a convertible car on 6th March 2013 as a Conditional Sale using Moneybarn. On the 16th March 2013 the roof started to leak so I contacted the dealer and they asked me to take it back which is 100 miles from my home, I got booked in for the 3rd April and they cleared out the cars guttering. As soon as we got it back it leaked again so I contacted the dealer and again we were asked to take the car back, this time they adjusted the roof but said if this doesn't work we would need to see a specialist.

Next time it rained the roof leaked again so contacted the dealer who put us in touch with a roofing specialist in Birmingham which is only 50 miles from where I live but still a massive inconvenience as while it was with the specialist I had no car.

To cut a long story short the car went in 4 times, the seals have been replaced 3-4 times, the windows and roof have been adjusted multiple times but the car is still leaking. I contacted the Moneybarn at the end of September to inform them of the issues we had been experiencing and they informed me that if the dealer was dealing with it they wouldn't get involved.

I then complained to Moneybarn and explained that it had been happening from day 1, included all of the evidence to prove the dealer had been sorting the problem. Their response was that the car is governed by the sales of goods act and therefore nothing to do with them. When I corrected them to the fact it is conditional sale they said that if we could get the trader to admit that there was a fault at the point of sale then they'd see what they could do. So we contacted the dealer again and the car went off again this time for 3 weeks, got it back and it's still leaking so I contacted the moneybarn to inform them and they said they couldn't help as it was over 6 months.

The lady went away and spoke to her director who said if we could provide reports they would see what they could do. I sent the report over 2 weeks ago with a complaint letter requesting a 7 day response window as they did not respond within 14 days to the first complaint which is technically still open and I have heard nothing. They never call me back despite leaving 4-5 messages, they do not respond to emails and I now have a car that is not fit for purpose that I am paying £300 a month for.

Can anyone please help!!!

    Hi,

I have a car loan with Moneybarn due to previous credit history - its nearly all gone and next time round I might try with a loan from a standard lender to try.

I have been over paying to reduce the time of the loan and how much I pay overall.

Anyway. I am sure they provide the funds and it is the garage that are responsible to sell you a reasonable car. Hense all their regulations. Moneybarn just lent you the money. Its like having a standard survey for a mortgage and then having the morgage moving in and trying to blame the mortgage company for the fact the roof leaks.

I would go back to the garage and try and sort it out there - Moneybarn are not being bad - they are just keeping to their side which is the money.

I do hope you find a resolution.

  • What do you want Moneybarn to do that your dealer has/cannot do?

Is the loan a HP or a personal loan?

It's not a Renault Megane is it?
  • I would like them to stop ignoring me first of all, it's not a loan it's a conditional sale which means the car is their asset until the final payment, I want a car that is fit for purpose and if they can not fix it then they should take it back.
