You really don't need to buy the recommended kit. Both my girls have used a Regatta jacket, which was under £10 in MandM sale and waterproof trousers which were about £5 from Sports direct. Boots were from TKMaxx, for under £20.Neither of them were prepared to wear fleeces, but they had base layers frim Primark, and just layered up their existing clothes.
They started at bronze,and have just kept sharing the same kit.One has gold, and the other has got silver, and started gold in September. My girls did it through the school, and there was a lot of kit available to borrow.Some kids borrowed waterproofs, and even boots. I also know a coordinator in another area, and they have most items available to borrow. It might be worth checking what's available before buying.

If you are buying from outdoor clothing shops and you can demonstrate your child is doing the D of E you will be entitled to an additional discount. Just ask.

I agree with Jazzy_B - although the Debs sale is good value if you actually want the items anyway, my son has done Gold and Silver D of E Expeditions without buying any specially branded clothes - in fact I didn't even know such a thing existed until this thread!
