Ex is not paying me what he owes

I took out a 10k loan when I was still with my ex and we were happy (!)

We split up and he continued to pay the monthly cost as the loan was to clear his debts. He stopped paying the monthly cost two months ago and has stopped all contact.

He will not reply to emails or texts, but I think he is using my email for online gaming, as although |I am not being charged a fee, I am getting emails.

Any advice regarding getting my money back??

If the loan is in your name there is nothing really you can do unfortunately.
  • Yeah I thought as much - I was stupid and helped the person I loved.

    Thanks

Chris Rock suggests investing in males is a bad investment always.
Money can't buy love, sorry your ex is so shameless, hope next time you get involved, it is with somebody solvent.

I suggest it may also be worthwhile checking your credit rating free with experian .

Financial abuse is not uncommon but still painful.

You can register with Noddle and get a monthly report free of charge. For the other credit agencies a £2 statutory report should be enough.

One other thought though, if he is using your email then change it. The safest option is probably a new email account, but if you don't want to do that make sure you change the password. As it stands, if he can access it, then he could change the password and lock you out of your own account.
  • If he has been paying you money regularly thnei believe this can be used to get the money back.

    From my experience only:

I lent money to a "friend". The stopped paying me it back and ignored all correspondence (Then got their pathetic family to threaten me...).

I took it to the small claims court and just leant on them, my main bit of evidence was that due to them paying me money previously, they had made an omission of owing me money from paying it back.

IT may be worth you taking them to the small claims court and highlighting that they have been paying you back and use that as their omission. Small claims fees are relatively small (depending on how much you owe).

Otherwise though you may be stuck - and i am not guaranteeing that the above will work - it was just my reasoning i used.

    Good Luck :-)

Definitely check your credit reports and also make sure he is no longer showing on the electoral register at your address. Then change ALL your passwords starting with your email.

I would suggest changing the password then deleting the account entirely, might be a pain in the short term but better safe than sorry.
