My ex is using my address to obtain credit. Need some advice please
Wondering if anyone can help me...
Me and my ex bought a house together five years ago, I left after a year, he stayed in the house for another two years and didn't pay the mortgage, council tax etc got in to serious debt. I convinced him to move out and rent out the property. January this year he lost his job and told me he didn't want anything to do with this house, i paid off the outstanding arrears and I set the wheels in motion for removing his name from the mortgage.
I am aware that he is still using the address of our house to obtain payday loans which he then does not pay and that a restriction has been placed on the house because of non payment of loan. How do I stop him from using this address to get these things? Both of our names are on the mortgage and I have the address of where he does live.

Send any letters that come to the house with 'not at this address' and put his real address on.
If the debts are solely in his name, you are not responsible for them.
I don't understand what you mean when you say 'a restriction has been placed on the house'make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
The restriction (as I understand it) simply prevents someone selling the property without additional checks and is often used when fraud is a possibility.

Have you told the mortgage provider what he is up to? If not I think you should.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
Is the property still jointly owned? As creditors could pursue your ex for his debts through his share.0

Unless you can easily justify the mortgage on your own income, the mortgage company is not going to remove his name from the mortgage. At present they can chase two of you for the mortgage, if they take his name off they can only chase you - this can never be good news for them so it is usually quite difficult to achieve.
Unless the mortgage lender has said that they are happy to remove him, your best option may well be to sell the house and sever all financial links between you and the ex0 -

The definitive thread on this is Charging Order? The mythYou might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0
