fried bread

Options
Hi there, Going to have a full english breakfast as a treat, can anyone tell me how they cook fried bread? I always manage to burn it or have it too greasy, and any other tips for cooking fry ups.

I dip mine in oil on both sides but cook it on a tray in the oven to crisp it up.

Depending how health conscious you are you can either melt some lard or dripping in a pan and add the bread and keep turning until it's brown and use a fish slice thingy to press it hard to get the excess fat out. The other way is to just spread the lard/dripping on each side of the bread and then add to the pan as above.
My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being, hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.

In those long gone days I used to splash a bit of water on the bread before frying it, seemed to stop the bread soaking up too much fat.
I also add a little bit of water to the frying pan when frying eggs (pan with lid), the water produces steam to cook the white over the egg yolk getting rid of the ´slime´

I usually toast it lightly then throw into very hot oil (or dripping if feeling very naughty) Drain on kitchen paper before putting on the plate.
One day I might be more organised...........

When I do fried bread, I dip it in the fat in the pan on ONE side and then toast it under the grill.
