Well it is that time of year again, make promises I usually keep for a few weeks then panic as I cant keep it up and throw in the towel...

This year will be different as I have hubby completely on board and I am not going to try and change the world just clear a few bills...

I have a barclaycard C/C to clear..£1,167.35p owing x
I have a creationcard C/C to clear..£950.00 owing x
I have an Argoscard to clear..£970.00 owing x

I also have a marisota account and curvissa which I am paying more then min payments every month but are managable so not bothered about these until the 3 above are cleared. Argos isn't all mine my son owes me a fair chunk of it to payback after xmas so will pay this straight off there.

I don't know whether its wise to really throw everything I have at one account weekly or monthly or split it three ways and clear them slower,.. I have just made Dec payment off creation card so have a full month before I need to think about that one, I am planning to join the payment a day and chip a pound or two off barclaycard daily as thats easy online so maybe zap argos first!! I also know that if I clear the C/C whilst the sales are on I will go around the bend not spending on things I really do not need, so I need to get tough on myself and focus!!!

I have a few challenges with my eye on but most are saving which I dont feel ok about joining while I owe all this money so going to hold off til these three are cleared, we have done Park hampers for a few years for 20 odd friends and work colleagues so have already ordered ours and hubby has offered to pay ours solo for first 6 months out of his pocket money so that will give me a head start... and Christmas will be covered for next year completely x

I think realistically I can clear one card every 2 months or there abouts if I really reign in the spending and stop wandering needlessly, big changes need to be made and sharpish!!...

  • Psychologically I like to clear things completely as it helps motivate me but I know others have different opinions.

You sound like me I do the same but I can sort it this year so We need to stay on track!
Can I ever learn this budgeting lark? So far it's not looking promising

  • Hi Cariad it sounds like a great plan to me. Have you done a statement of affairs to see if any of us can trim any of your costs? http://www.stoozing.com/calculator/soa.php
or have you used the snowball calculator? http://www.whatsthecost.com/snowball.aspx it might give better ideas about what to clear first

  • Finally back to work today only for four hours though and expecting it to be really quiet so will spend it planning my attack on the credit cards and remembering we have to live for the month too, We are well into the overdraft too so I am going to take it a lil easier on the argoscard clearance and make sure the overdraft isn't used end of January..

I am always so fed up of hubby getting paid last day of the month especially over Christmas until now when everyone is brassic and we have a months wage due shame £423.00 of this will be sucked into overdraft somehow I always forget to include this little matter into debt totals but not this time I have joined the get debt free by xmas 2014 and have included Overdraft;), argos card, c/c1,c/c2 and although I feel bad saving for next Christmas whilst in debt I really need to budget for this too-so joined the weekly saving thread too starting low and building up sounds doable.

My present list has rightly or wrongly(don't give to receive)has been cut significantly, whilst we have fab family and friends some of their principles of buying gifts without any thought drives myself and hubby up the wall..
E.g. we have friends who have 5 kids we have 2 my d/s lives with me, my s/s doesnt but is still my hubbys son who stays most weekends etc, we buy for 5 kids and the friends a nominal bottle of wine, this year was a sock set and matching gloves and hat ok they were from Primarni but were really lovely and bought as I knew the kids (young teens)would love them cost approx £7 each set.. my d/s received a bottle of bubble bath:cool: and s/s nothing?? moneywise it really don't matter if they chose anything my son and s/s that cost a £1 each but knew they would like I would be happy so to cut a long story short I won't be bothering next year.. I think we will mention a night out together bowling or something to celebrate... hmm gripe over!! I hope I don't come across as a horrible mare as I am not just sometimes you have to stop having your noses being rubbed in gawd only knows what ...

WELL what I was coming too I am not going to do the sale bits for presents this year I am going to start a change pot and this will be used for cards and gifts etc through the year,:easter_os will not cost us the usual of computer games etc can stop this year it will be a £10 in a card for all the kids and an egg, and birthdays can be budgeted for later when funds are a little better as none of our kids birthdays are before September anyway x

Christmas is my fav time of year :xmastree::santa2::snow_laug:xmassmile Park hampers thankfully take care of most of our bills £275 commission and save £500 vouchers Hubby is paying half this year so takes pressure off he also saves with credit union so xmas is totally covered it seems way to much but I am hoping to have a new suite out of vouchers this year if I can budget well enough through year... This is more a need than a want x

Time to go pack my works bag n dig out my shiny new notebooks lol

Well got a 16 hour shift to look forward to tonight not good but necessary.. Had a nice day so far tho went to slimming world and had a small gain over Christmas NOTHING THAT CAN'T BE GONE BY NEXT WEEK was lovely to catch up with everyone happy and smiling and relieved to see Christmas over with as are we.

Well done extra few hours in work last night and £18 gained, someone owed me £4 too so that goes in pot, and hubby gave me £30 he had won £100 so we had £30 each and £40 topped up gas and electric for the week so another bonus, then I won £4.95 free week in slimming world so that will be popped in Jan earnings so thats upto £56.95/£155 already I have a few things to pop on ebay today before work so will do that now before I forget.

It would be good if you target the card with the highest interest/APR which at a guess I would say would be creation.

Hello and welcome/croeso Cariad to the boards:)

I hope I don't come across as a horrible mare as I am not just sometimes you have to stop having your noses being rubbed in gawd only knows what ...

Heavens not horrible at all - just realistic!

be a £10 in a card for all the kids and an egg, and birthdays can be budgeted for later when funds are a little better as none of our kids birthdays are before September anyway x

Why not just leave it at an egg? Is Easter becoming the new Christmas??? A supermarket commercial consumer fest!!

We only buy presents for our 2 children and made a stand about this a few years ago.....we informed our friends and relatives that this is what we would be doing and most took it fine and followed our example others fell by the wayside and some( relatives) havent spoken to us since - we decided if they were that shallow then it was no loss! We dont buy present for each other and contribute the the works £5 Christmas Santa. All these decisions were made for sound financial reasons and also the refusal to be sucked in to the over hyped consumerism..............so Easter means eggs only for our own children and when they were little we use to have a group egg hunt with friends.

Good luck with the debt busting..........yes the highest APR is the one to hit first!
