Over 2 month ago I applied for a Job and was unsuccessful. I have now got another Job that I have been working in just over a month. I have just received an email saying that they were impressed with my CV and although I was unsuccessful my CV has been passed to a different department and they want to know if I would like a interview.

I am happy in my current job and i'm not looking to leave. Working for the company offering me the interview may help my career more. I wouldn't mind working for them now or in the future.

Just want to know what people on here think the best way of deal with this is.

Do I go to the interview? or do I let the company know of my suitation and get more details about the role?

  • Your post isn't very clear.

You have a new job. 'They' were impressed with your CV - is this another dept of the same company? An agency? A completely different company? All 3 of these are very different scenarios.

It looks from para 2 as if it's a different company. If so, you have to weigh up the benefits of possibly being found out by your current company going for an interview - or even trying to find out more! - in your early induction period, against sniffing the wind and seeing what else is out there.
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

    It's a different company.

I wouldn't mind working for the company offering the interview but maybe now isn't the right time(?) But I don't want mess up future chances of working for them by turning down an interview or job with them.

Although this leaves me with a delima if I get the Job.
I'm really enjoying my new job and fit in well etc. I don't want to lose future chances of working with company offering me the interview by turning a job offer down.

Well don't go then! I don't think you would ruin any future chances though.

Just reply and say thanks for the invite but you have since started a new job and are happy where you are for the time being.

    Agree with Beanie.

You won't ruin any future chances with the company now offering an interview if you respond politely.

Personally, I'd take a day off or arrange the interview out of hours etc. An offer of a job interview is not an offer of a job and you may well go and not like it or not be offered it in which case you have closure.

You can solve the dilemma about which job when you definitely have an actual offer from the other company

If it is a job you would consider taking, as in the pay and role is right then I would go for it. Nothing to lose. Better to have the choice to stay where you are then not at all.

A company won't hold it against you if you refuse an interview, or even an offer.

    Don't burn bridges.

It will cost you a day off, but may lead to something better. It's a good dilemma to have!
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.
  • Take a day off and go to the interview. You have not much to lose and potentially a lot to gain if the company offers you better salary/work benefits.

This is how you grow by constantly improving and seeking out better opportunities.
