How do you cook your turkey? (Horror stories of mothers ruining the turkey welcome)

We also avoid it - neither of us particularly like roast turkey even if it's not too dry, but we do use turkey pieces throughout the year as a chicken substitute in curry, stews etc.
As there are only the 2 of us this year, we're having a duck crown (would have been a whole one, but OH couldn't get to the shops until the 24th and that's what there was). There's also the usual ham and most of the trimmings (at least the ones we like), so still somewhat traditional!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
We smear a load of butter under the skin, a la Jamie.
My mum always cooked her turkey overnight in a low oven, and I did too until a few years ago. That way, it was cooked by the time you get up and frees up the oven for all the other stuff. We'd carve it then reheat the slices. Never had any complaints about it being dry. (I'm a veggie, so never tried it.)0 -

My late MIL cooked her turkey overnight, I don't know if I could sleep knowing something was cooking in the oven all night.0

I cooked a turkey once. Never again! I was paranoid about under cooking it and consequently over cooked it. It was stringy and horrible.
Now I do a turkey breast joint or two, a gammon joint and this year I did a leg of lamb tooGammon is the kids' favourite, lamb is mine and DS likes traditional turkey so everyone was well catered for this year
Everyone prefers the pigs in blankets to anything else so if that was all that was put on the table, I doubt I would get any complaints!
The butter basted turkey breast joints were from Mr T and are lovely and tender even though I left them in a bit too long today. They are also just enough for 2 adults and 2 childrenI wouldn't want to be making turkey dinners for the next couple of weeks

I did Delia with a turkey crown and it was wonderful (man that just sounds wrong ...). Also did leg of lamb, pork/apple/cranberry stuffing, roast spuds, roast carrots, mashed swede, steamed leeks & peas, gravy and sauces."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

I did that one year - had strange dreams all night, and came down to frantic cats dancing in the kitchen because of the smell."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000
