Be sure to check labels properly, sainsburys cheapest mayo is 1/4 of the price of their low fat one but has exactly the same amount of fat !
Basically lighter and cheaper versions follow the same principles, you get more water than in the standard version, the difference being that in the lighter version they pocket the difference, not you....
This has made me realise what overpriced junk I'm buying, and will probably reverse to the standard version, use less and save money lol.
light mayo ingredients:
Water, Vegetable Oil (25%), Modified Maize Starch, Free Range Pasteurised Egg Yolk (2.7%), Spirit Vinegar, Sugar, Salt, Milk Protein, Concentrated Lemon Juice, Stabiliser: Xanthan Gum, Preservative: Potassium Sorbate, Colour: Paprika Extract, Natural Mustard Flavouring.
basic:
Water, Rapeseed Oil (35%), Thickener (Modified Maize Starch), Pasteurised Egg Yolk (3%), Spirit Vinegar, Sugar, Salt, Acidity Regulator (Lactic Acid), Preservative (Potassium Sorbate).
standard:
Rapeseed Oil (70%), Water, Pasteurised Egg Yolk (2%), Sugar, Spirit Vinegar, Salt, Thickener (Modified Maize Starch), Acidity Regulator (Lactic Acid), Preservative (Potassium Sorbate).0 -

I buy garlic ice cubes from the freezer dept in Azda. chop them in half and store in a t/a box. You get about 20 for a quid = 40 portions.
Passata is 29p (ish) in Al-dls. Cheaper than chopped toms unless you can get 3 for £1. We have a turkish shop opposite our lidl so I do a comparison on fruit and veg. I get a massive tin of tom puree and portion it up for the freezer.
I use value brown sauce instead of lea and perrind as it is vegetarian.
Squishy bananas instead of egg in muffins.
Desicated coconut instead of block coconut. It is more multi purpose I feel.
Veg oil in cake mix instead of hard fat.0 -
