So interested to read this thread. I had to cancel the family Christmas lunch as I was ill. They are all coming tomorrow and I have spent the day in the kitchen. I have two small Donald Russell turkey crowns which are meant to defrost in the fridge overnight to be cooked next day. I took them out last night and placed at bottom of my small fridge but they are still frozen solid. They are vacuum packed and I have put them in plastic bags in the garage (adjoining the house). It is 5 degrees outdoors tonight so I am hoping they will be ok to put in the oven around 1pm tomorrow. It is the same with my sausages wrapped in bacon thingies, they are frozen solid but I will defrost at room temperature in the morning.

Can't wait to see everyone but don't want them to get ill like I did!

Well, the turkey crowns defrosted nicely out in the garage and I left them out in the kitchen till time to cook them (around 1pm). I have to say they were delicious, lovely and moist but, sadly, the rest of the meal went pear shaped as I got myself in a tizzwaz. The potatoes were not roasted but more sort of boiled in oil, as were the parsnips. Basically, a lot of the food was cool by the time I served it but people said it was good anyway.

My microwave clootie dumpling (Scottish recipe) saved the day instead of a Christmas pudding as did my Mary Berry trifle.

    Not my turn next year!:j

Did you prep everything the night before or on the day. I part boil my spuds for around 20min then roast for around 30min with hardly any oil. Just a few drops in the pan. I do all this while the turkey was left out the oven for 30min at then end before carving.

Parsnips again I use a little spray oil but I use a pyrex oven dish instead of a tray for these and in the same dish cook my stuffing. Again these all get put on while the spuds are in and the turkey is waiting.
